What Emma Wrote:
The Woman Behind the Words on the Statue of Liberty

RSVP Tue, Aug 11, 2026 at 10:30 AM

Join us for a special story time celebrating the inspiring story of What Emma Wrote: The Woman Behind the Words on the Statue of Liberty. Author Ann Diament Koffsky will read aloud from her book and share how poet Emma Lazarus used her words to welcome immigrants arriving in New York Harbor. After the read-aloud, children will create their own Statue of Liberty crown collage. Inspired by Emma Lazarus’s poem “The New Colossus,” participants will fill their crowns with welcoming and hopeful words that reflect kindness, community, and belonging. The program will include an opportunity to meet the author and have books signed.

You must reserve a place for your child/family by clicking the “RSVP” button above. This will forward you to Ticketstripe for registration. After registering, you will receive emails to confirm your attendance through a Google Form (you only need to fill this out once). If you do not confirm attendance by the Friday morning before the program, your places will be canceled. Every child should be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Family programs are free! Reservation priority is given to The Skyscraper Museum members. Want to become a member? Spring programs are supported by a Community Partnership with the Battery Park City Authority.
