Turn Your School Green! Sustainable Architecture

Green schools and skyscrapers! In this program we’ll compare the architecture and engineering of a local Battery Park City school and a skyscraper, the Empire State Building, to gauge how buildings of different sizes incorporate sustainability to be more energy efficient. Explore how climate change is affecting the design of buildings in our daily lives and identify comparative differences between them! kids will draw their own school, or imagine a brand new one, and redesign it as a green building or playground, complete with solar panels, rooftop gardens, and other earth-friendly ideas!

This is an in-person children’s program that meets at the Skyscraper Museum, 39 Battery Pl.

You must reserve a place for your child/family by clicking the “RSVP” button above. This will forward you to Ticketstripe for registration. After registering, you will receive emails to confirm your attendance through a Google Form (you only need to fill this out once). If you do not confirm attendance by the Friday morning before the program, your places will be canceled. Every child should be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Family programs are free! Reservation priority is given to The Skyscraper Museum members. Want to become a member? Summer programs are supported by a Community Partnership with the Battery Park City Authority.

Green schools and skyscrapers! In this program we’ll compare the architecture and engineering of our neighbor, the Battery Park City “Green School” and a skyscraper, the Empire State Building, to see how buildings of different sizes can use design to be more energy efficient. Then we’ll redesign a school that teaches us how architecture can help address climate change!
