Black History Month Celebration:
Architecture of the Harlem Renaissance

RSVP Sat, Feb 21, 2026 at 10:30 AM

100 years ago, Black artists, architects, and activists of the Harlem Renaissance defined a cultural movement that celebrated and fought for civil rights in the heart of New York City. In the lively uptown neighborhood, many forms of artistic expression – jazz poetry, musical theater, literature, and architecture – energized culture. Join us to learn about art and architecture of the Harlem Renaissance, including spaces like the Apollo theater and Minton’s Playhouse. We’ll then create collages using cutouts of New York buildings, art pieces, and literature from the Renaissance, inspired by African American artist, Romare Bearden. All ages welcome!

This is an in-person children’s program that meets at the Skyscraper Museum, 39 Battery Pl.

You must reserve a place for your child/family by clicking the “RSVP” button above. This will forward you to Ticketstripe for registration. After registering, you will receive emails to confirm your attendance through a Google Form (you only need to fill this out once). If you do not confirm attendance by the Friday morning before the program, your places will be canceled. Every child should be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Family programs are free! Winter programs are supported by a Community Partnership with the Battery Park City Authority. What to become a member?
