Chengdu, China
Rising 468 meters above the ground, Chengdu Greenland Tower will become the tallest building in Chengdu and southwestern China when construction completes in 2021. As the capital of Sichuan province, Chengdu has an urban population of 11,430,000. Conforming with the cascade of skyscraper projects in the city, particularly in the booming Dongcun district, Chengdu Greenland Tower blends a keen sense of functionalism with a unique, emboldened design that is set to rise above the rest.
The tower is a central component of Chengdu Greenland Center Complex. The main tower consists of an array of office accommodations and a luxury hotel.
The overall design of the complex interprets and integrates urban structure and local culture in Chengdu and represents the modern embodiment of Chinese traditional feng shui theory. The form of the tower was inspired by the unique ice mountain topography surrounding the city. A series of angled glass panels and inset LED lights on the facade emulate the cool mountain ridges.
