New York, NY
Located at 225 West 57th Street on the western end of “Billionaire’s Row”, Central Park Tower, scheduled for completion in 2020, will stand at 1,550 ft. above the street, making it the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere. Designed by the firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the tower will house Nordstrom’s flagship store at its base, followed by a hotel, and 179 residential condo units on the upper section. Amenities located on the lower section include a terrace, a cigar bar, an indoor and outdoor pool, a playground, a screening room, conference rooms, and a fitness center.
Wrapped in an all-glass curtain wall, the tower is flanked by vertical satin-finished stainless steel fins. The main portion of the tower cantilevers to the east above a landmarked French-Renaissance building occupied by the Art Student League of New York. The cantilever guarantees the views of the north facing residences that overlook Central Park. The corners of the main shaft of the tower indent inwards as the tower rises, creating small notches for outdoor terraces. A series of unitized vertical louvers enclose the mechanical floors that are spread across the tower. These utility floors will be illuminated at night.
