The tallest skyscraper in Asia in 2018 and the second tallest in the world, Shanghai Tower’s spiraling form rises 128 stories – 2073 ft. / 632 m. in Lujiazui, the new business district of Pudong on the east side of the Huangpu River in Shanghai. With a population of more than 24 million in its urban area, Shanghai is the largest city in China by population. Its skyline features other three iconic towers: the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Jin Mao Building, and the Shanghai World Financial Center. Shanghai Tower has the world’s highest observation deck within the building that overlooks the Bund. The government client described the structure as “a symbol of a nation whose future embraces limitless opportunities.”

The mixed-used Tower includes restaurants, shops, office space, and a hotel. The programs are organized into nine sections. Each section has a sky lobby and is placed on top of one another. The building has a double-skin facade that encloses the stacked segments, emphasizing sustainable design and innovative high-performance features.
