RIGHTS & REPRODUCTIONS

The Skyscraper Museum can provide digital reproductions for one-time use for most of its collections. To search available collections, please use the interactive databases VIVA, VIVA2, and the Banker’s Trust Virtual Archive. Given its limited space, the Museum does not permit on-site research of the items accessible in the on-line archive. Other research requests should be directed to archive[at]skyscraper.org

All image requests must be made in writing (e-mail is acceptable). Please include the accession number, the collection, and specifications for use of the image.

This permission is non-exclusive; The Skyscraper Museum reserves the right to reproduce the image and to allow others to reproduce the image.

The Skyscraper Museum reserves the right to refuse reproduction of its pictorial images and to impose such conditions as it may deem advisable in its sole and absolute discretion in its best interests.

Images will be furnished upon receipt of payment. Low-resolution images are available by email to verify image selection.

All images will be provided in digital format unless absolutely necessary. Most files will be delivered in uncompressed TIFF format. Scans of existing negatives/transparencies and original images up to 11” x 17” can be digitized. Larger size items cannot be accommodated. Most images will be scanned at 300 DPI or 400 DPI depending on the size of the material unless indicated otherwise. Transparencies are scanned at 600 DPI. Files will be delivered on CD.

Commercial use of the images is $100/image with a $35 handling fee. Additional research is $35/hour.

Education and non-profit institutions may contact the Museum to request a reduced rate.
COPYRIGHT
In addition to the permission of the Skyscraper Museum, additional permissions may be required. In cases of living artists and/or subject to the 1976 Copyright Law or the 1991 Visual Artists Rights Act, written permission must be secured by the applicant from the artist, his/her agent, or the copyright owner and provided to the Skyscraper Museum before the image will be released.

COPYRIGHT WARNING
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, USC) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, archives and libraries are authorized to furnish a photocopy or reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. The Skyscraper Museum reserves the right to refuse a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
